Computer Security
In these days of hacking, stealing identities, and total dishonesty, it is important to protect your computer. Here are some ways to prevent outsiders getting into your computer.
A Good Security System is vital to keep out the "enemy." There are several out there to choose. McAfee and Norton are two of the top ones listed when you Google "security systems for computers." Just make sure to have something, since without it someone can hack into your computer and steal your information.
A Password Protected User Account can help prevent someone who gets past the security system from entering your computer (even when it is turned off).
To create a user account you need to go to the Control Panel found in the menu list on the right when you click "Start."
-The "User Account" window comes up.
-Click "Create a new account."
-The "Name the New Account" window appears.
-Type your user name in the space provided.
-Click "Next."
-Then the "Pick an Account Type" window comes up.
-Click "Computer Administrator."
-Click "Create an Account."
You will return to the "User Account" window with an icon next to your new account name.
-Click on the icon next to your new account.
-A window will open with several options:
Change the Name
Create a Password
Change the Picture
Change the Account Type
Delete the Account.
It is suggested that you create a personal password for your log in. This will hinder anyone who tries to enter your account.
It cannot be stressed enough how important this is. Someone shared a story about waking at 2:30 AM and finding a glow coming from the room where the computer was. This computer had been shut down earlier, but at 2:30 AM it was on, but it was on at the log in. The invader got no further.
