I remember years ago that we as a country seemed appalled at the vulgar way British newspapers “displayed” the news. Our newspapers are not that bad, now, but our news shows are. Half naked men and women are everywhere. Our entertainers do not hide anything from us, i.e. Miley Cyrus. Her wrecking ball video showed her naked. I was wondering when her exhibitionist nature would get her there. It did not take long. And everyone reported and showed it as they condemned it, even the news shows. She got what she wanted - publicity. But did I need to see it on my morning news show?
I am not saying that we as a nation are going to hell. I am just saying that we do not need the antics of our entertainers or even our politicians reported on the news. Right now, anything goes.
Toronto has a drug addicted mayor. Canada has a teenage entertainer that keeps getting arrested. Congress has members who threaten people on camera and immediately apologize. Politicians express racist beliefs and immediately say that things were taken out of context. Members of professional sport teams show us everything about their sexual activities. Do we need all of this reported in our news?
We have entertainment news shows, the internet, Twitter, and other web based sites that already take care of reporting this kind of information. I just want to see what is going in the country and the world when I turn on the news.
The funny thing about all of this is that I turn on BBC news to see what is going on in the world and the USA. You see, the news channels are so focused on the entertainment aspect that they do not have the time to tell us the actual news. BBC , ironically, does just that.
