Westerns were really big back then. There was The Lone Ranger and Tonto,, Hopalong Cassidy and Gabby, Have Gun. Will Travel (Palladine), and Roy Rogers with Dale Evans. I even had my own Hopalong Cassidy outfit. I loved Hoppy when I was five. I realize now he looked a lot like my Daddy.
Now these shows would not be accepted because they would be considered too violent. But we learned all our values from these shows. The good men always won. They had impeccable manners, were polite to ladies, etc.
Then Maverick came along. Bret was so suave and a gambler. BUT he was a good man. Then his brother Bart showed up. He was not as handsome as Bart but still good-looking and "good,"
A little later Bonanza came along. Little Joe was the heart throb, but I preferred Adam. I was older and my tastes definitely established.
Now, as I said, I am watching and enjoying a rerun. I have a 90 year old neighbor, who I visit twice a day to make sure she eats and takes her meds. She watches TV Land to see all of my old "heroes," too. She also likes Adam, on Bonanza.
I guess I watch Saturday morning TV for the memories of my youth, as well as enjoyment. I feel a little bit younger when I watch those old shows. Sigh.
