a senior AND I walk with a cane. I
appreciate those people who defer to me to go through a door first because I
walk with a cane. I do not appreciate those people who treat me as if the cane is in some way related to my
brain and its ability to think.
I also resent younger people who do not represent the “more informed” of the young treating me like I am a halfwit. Although I might have forgotten quite a bit over the years, I definitely
know more than these guys do about most things. My mind is not gone, yet. Theirs has not expanded enough, yet, to think of anything more important than a text message. However, they act like they think that I am stupid.
Rudeness, crudeness, inconsiderateness, laziness,
thoughtlessness, and so many other traits are evident in many younger people today. Oh, and of course, there
is that self-centered attitude; you know the one that they think they are the
center of the universe and know nothing about it, really.
I guess this will not change until they get a bit more of life under their belts. And I guess I am not longer patient with their maturing process taking so
long.
So, from now on, I am seeking the “older” person in the room when shopping, eating, etc. It will not help these disadvantaged young, but it
sure will help my blood pressure.
