Perfection

Perfection

I have lived a rather long time and in that time I have never seen perfection. I have experienced some pretty amazing times and have met some pretty amazing people, but I have NEVER experienced total, unadulterated flawlessness. If I can rate something 80-85% good, I feel that I am in a good place or the person is a good find.

However, I am now living with perfection-demanding people. No not those that want broken things fixed, or unsuitable relationships mended; no I am talking about those that only see the flaws in everything and everybody (but themselves, of course). These are miserable people and being around them makes us miserable. They constantly find fault, criticize, and basically make themselves and the others to whom they communicate these thoughts absolutely wretched. They do not cut anyone or anything some slack.  But let me assure you that I am not talking about those of us who complain about things that are going wrong or people who rub us the wrong way on occasion. I am talking about those NEGATIVE people who see nothing positive in anything. They never rejoice or experience true happiness.

But as I said in the previous paragraph, these “perfectionists” have not repaired themselves into that perfect person. They do not see that others shy away from them BECAUSE they are so negative; they only feel the rejection and respond in kind by “griping” some more.

I try (and fail miserably) to be as perfect as I can. I admire those who achieve something close to perfection. I love experiencing a place or event that promotes excellence and “perfection,” if you will. But I so do not have time for these folks who demand perfection without getting “their own house” in order.
