Smile, smile, joke, joke, ha, ha, flirt, flirt, wink, wink, elbow, elbow, smile, smile, joke, joke, talk over others, talk over others, joke, joke, ha, ha, interrupt, interrupt, insult, insult, smile, smile, joke, joke, a bit of news.

And then it starts all over again. What has happened here? I heard this morning a statistic that 60% of millennials get their news and political info from social media like Facebook and Twitter. AND 60% of Baby Boomers get their news and political info from TV news. So why are the news programs acting like this? The ones that would feel that this is fun are asleep at that time of morning or if awake are on their phones. We Baby Boomers are up, as we have been for years and years, wanting to get the News!

And then there are the stories – not the actual news of the world and the nation –  about “celebrities” getting pregnant, changing their gender, being seen doing something inane, and the latest weather catastrophe complete with pictures, any farm animal story, latest pictures of the royal family (not ours, but Britain’s) and other “special Interest” features. Inserted carefully without going into detail, we might see something that is newsworthy, but no real time will be devoted to it. We will be returned to their previous program. Smile, smile, joke, joke, ha, ha, etc.

It seems to me that our news shows are more of the entertainment type of show than a news show. We already have tons of “entertainment shows” reporting all of this. When I get really tired of the foolishness, I tune in to PBS and watch the World News there. I usually find out more about America than I do on our American news shows.

What a shame that everything has to be entertainment now – and not even good entertainment.  It seems dumbed down somehow. I miss Walter Cronkite.
