Dog Days of Summer

Right now it is 90 degrees with heat index 40%. Sun is shining and no relief in sight. Makes the temp feel like 96.One of  my poor stray cats is lying on the concrete porch with my small box fan blowing on her. The others are out front, I hope, where there seems to be a pipe they can do down into the ground where it is cooler.

Riley went out at 6 AM and it was not cool then either. Now he is on the floor asleep. Was on his back with all his underparts exposed. That is how he sleeps at night in bed with me. He has his side of the queen-sized bed. ha, ha

I have one stray black and white female who just showed up the last week or so. I do not know where she is during day, but she is here early morning to eat and late afternoon. A neighbor gave me a can of tuna and my porch cats will not eat it or even their own food - must be too hot. This little sickly stray will eat anything I give her. She is catching up and not so scrawny. I still think she might not be well, but will wait to see if it was the heat and starvation.

I think I have explained before why we have so many strays. Our apartment complex is in a commercial area about 4 blocks from a poor residential area. My neighbors and I think most kittens are from the residential area. When we opened 5 years ago, someone dumped about 25 cats here. A neighbor told me she and another neighbor took them to the vet to be neutered, both male and female then. But we seem to have some new intact ones.

So Riley and I are still sitting here. I have not gotten the OK from my nurse friend that I can drive, yet. (concussion almost 6 weeks ago) I am hoping it will be next Saturday. If I get her OK, I am driving to the water and spend sometime in that Gulf breeze.

So stay cool my friends and stay safe.
