People did not line up at dawn for “bargains;” they just went to the stores to experience the beginning of the Christmas season. Stores were decorated for Christmas and there was just a special feeling in the air. THIS FEELING WAS NOT GREED!!!!
Today we watch people camp out to get the bargains, pushing, shoving, trampling and anything else to be first in the store to get stuff. We are manipulated today to buy, buy, and buy. We have become a greedy nation. We want and then want more. We are willing to shove anyone who gets in our way to get the “goods.”
I miss those old times. I loved being with all those people – those happy crowds - who were out starting the Christmas shopping and gift giving season. Now I really think they are shopping more for themselves; getting those bargains that they want but do not necessarily need.
Somehow we, as a nation, have lost that special innocence that once was the Christmas season. Now I think we should call it the “greedy season” or the “buying and getting season.”
Do we bring gifts as the wise men did? Or do we selfishly take gifts for ourselves and our families?
