A Sad Day

Yesterday my dear neighbor lost her Sheltie. She was just 10 years old and a wonderful, beautiful dog. BUT she had some surgery a week ago and had to take antibiotics for two weeks. She started having diarrhea about three days ago and then it was bloody. And she died. My heart aches for my friend. Like me she has no children and just has pets. She and Java, her Sheltie, came every day to check on me since I fell a year ago. She was a great companion to Brenda.

One year ago, I lost my Pekinese. I had taken him to the vet to get his vaccinations. He was fine when went got out of the car and was enjoying seeing all the dogs.  But when I got him out of the car back home he was barely walking. He came into the apartment and went to his bed. He did not want to go out. I did not know what to do. This same friend from above is a retired nurse and she came down and looked at him.

This went on off and on for two more days and then he went into my bathroom and his bowels emptied all over the floor. He went back to his bed in the bedroom. My friend checked him out and said he was probably dying. That night as I was reading in bed, he took his last breath.

Both of us have lost beloved friends because of medicines. But what can you do, if the cure is worse than the condition and you do not know it? If we had not given them the meds, would they have lived longer? I do not know the answer, but I do know my friend’s heart is broken and I cannot help.
